“I wish I didn’t have to say this, but indeed dignity and respect for women and girls is also on the ballot for this election.” – Hillary Clinton (2016 North Carolina Rally)

First Lady Michelle Obama joined Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in North Carolina on Thursday for their first joint appearance this election season.

Clinton and Obama fired up the crowd, both echoing the catchphrase, “When they go low, we go high” which FLOTUS coined among Democratic voters during her DNC speech this past summer.

For the past months, America’s well-loved FLOTUS has been a powerful surrogate for Secretary Clinton. From Pennsylvania to New Hampshire, Mrs. Obama has spent the past couple months making the case for voters to stand up for their daughters, sisters, mothers.

“People who are truly powerful lift others up [and] bring others together,” Michelle Obama said in Manchester. “We need someone who is a uniting force in this country. Someone who will heal the wounds in this country.”

Side-by-side with FLOTUS, Clinton said: “There are so many things I admire about our first lady… Michelle reminds us to work hard, stay true to our values, be good to one another and to never ever stop fighting for what we believe in.”

This joint campaign stop comes one day after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump spoke at a closed event in Charlotte. With only two weeks left until Election Day, North Carolina remains a tighly contested battleground state. Just one month ago, Trump and Clinton were tied in the polls for North Carolina.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m fired up,” Michelle Obama said. “We’re going to make this happen.”

Election Day is on Tuesday, November 8; make sure you’re registered to vote!
