Entity reports on how to do a waterfall braid.

During wedding, prom and graduation season, our news feeds have been overflowing with pictures of girls all dressed up with their hair and makeup done and sporting stunning dresses.

One hairstyle that has taken over our feed is the waterfall braid. This ‘do gained popularity a few seasons back, but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

While it is always fun to go all out for special events, this hairstyle can be worn with any range of attires, and the best part about it is that while your hair is mostly down, it is still pulled out of your face.

We’ve scoured the internet for the best tips in completing a waterfall braid, and here’s what we’ve found:

1 Make sure your hair is smooth and easy to manage.

Even if you’re going for the messy, curled look, it is best to style your curls after you have the braid in place. It’s much easier to work with a smooth canvas, er, straightened hair.

Everything will work out easier this way. Trust us.

2 Create your pieces.

Take a chunk of hair from the heavier side of your part and divide it into three sections.

3 Begin the braid.

When you begin braiding, make sure you are crossing the pieces of hair away from your face (as pictured).

4 Create the waterfall.

Once you pull the piece of hair away from your face, take a piece from the top of your hair and place it over the piece you just pulled back.

Essentially your “second” part of the braid will be a new piece of hair every time.

5 Secure the waterfall.

Take the bottom or “third” piece of hair and pull it over the “waterfall” piece.

6 Repeat.

Repeat this process for as long as you want your braid to be. Make sure you are lowering your braid at the angle you want it at.

Depending on what kind of style you are going for or the consistency of your hair, you can adjust the thickness of your hair pieces accordingly.

Choosing thinner pieces creates a daintier look, whereas choosing thicker pieces could be more casual (especially if you’re planning on loosely curling it).

P.S. We highly recommend matching the waterfall braid with curls.

And now you’re ready to rock one of the most glamorous — and yet (mostly) effortless — hairstyles trending now. Get ready to be flooded with compliments all day long.

Best of luck!
