ENTITY put together a list of our five favorite things about Kate Winslet.
While she might be most famous as Rose in “Titanic,” this leading lady has held roles in at least one movie every year since 1994. This means she has 23 years of fantastic characters under her belt. In 2017, she starred in the romance-disaster film, “The Mountain Between Us,” and the 1950s Woody Allen drama, “Wonder Wheel.”
For “The Mountain Between Us,” Kate Winslet shot scenes in British Columbia to mimic the Rocky Mountains, but the cold temperatures were no joke. The actress told Elle that it reminded her of shooting “Titanic” scenes in the cold water. “There were no tricks. It was fucking freezing and terrifying and we were really high up,” she said.
And if you’re looking to watch her older movies, Winslet can also be easily recognized from her roles in movies like “Finding Neverland” and “Divergent.”
Occasionally, her movie roles require her to sell romance with a younger actor, like her co-star Liam Hemsworth in “The Dressmaker.” The two were 14 years apart during filming! Right now, Kate Winslet is 41 years old while Liam Hemsworth is 27 years old. But, being the older woman doesn’t scare Kate Winslet. As she told PEOPLE in Sept. 2016, “It didn’t even occur to me. And the funny thing is now that the film is coming out, people are noticing that. I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, I completely, honestly, until today, I didn’t know how old Liam was.'”
She doesn’t care about age in her personal life either, which she made pretty clear to Daily Mail in March of 2015. “I have the kind of wrinkles that are here to stay now,” she said. “You know, not just the ones where you wake up in the morning and you go, ‘Oh that will go away in two hours’ time.’ No, they’re there. That’s the way it is.”
Her husband’s name is Ned Rocknroll. No, you read that right.
Ned Rocknroll, who was born Abel Smith, changed his name in 2008 to his strange monicker.
And he is Richard Branson’s nephew. You know, the man who founded the Virgin Group and runs over 400 companies. While Ned Rocknroll isn’t quite as successful as his uncle, he does work for him at the space-tourism division, Virgin Galactic.
Kate Winslet and her third husband met in August of 2011 during a holiday trip to Necker Island, Branson’s privately-owned paradise. But their first meeting wasn’t very relaxing because they escaped a fire together that broke out on the island.
However, despite the danger they survived, the couple found romance and they married in Dec. 2012. Kate Winslet described her husband to Daily Mail as “incredibly supportive” and “the most enthusiastic person I have ever met in my life.”
“He looks after all of us,” she added.
Ned Rocknroll is husband number three for Kate Winslet. The couple has a 3-year-old son, Bear Blaze Winslet. While the name of her son may seem odd to the average person, it’s nothing new when it comes to strange celebrity baby names.
However, his name does have meaning to the couple. His first name was inspired by Kate’s childhood friend who was called “Bear” as a nickname. And Blaze became his middle name to honor the fire that brought his parents together.
Kate Winslet also has a 16-year-old daughter, Mia Honey Threapleton, from her marriage to Jim Threapleton. The couple was married from 1998 to 2001. And she has her 13-year-old son, Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes, from her marriage to Sam Mendes. The couple was married from 2003 to 2011.
Kate Winslet has said in interviews that all her children get along, which is great because they permanently live with her instead of their fathers.
She discussed her post-divorce childcare situation in 2013 with The Telegraph. “My kids don’t go back and forth. None of this 50/50 time with the mums and dads,” she explained. “My children live with me. That is it it!”
All you die-hard “Titanic” fans will be happy to know, Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio are still friends. Besides “Titanic,” they starred together in the 2009 film, “Revolutionary Road” and they’ve maintained contact since. While filming her 2017 film, “The Mountain Between Us,” Kate Winslet said she sent pictures to Leo of the set.
Leo sent her back a bunch of “terrified-looking” emojis. And we don’t blame him because the actress was regularly exposed to some dangerous settings and cold temperatures.
