You can always count on something ridiculous to go viral on the internet. Whether it’s the Mannequin Challenge or the “Damn, Daniel” video, people are always coming up with new ways to entertain us.

Although the running man challenge went viral in 2016, there are still people who can’t get enough of the dance move.

But what exactly is the running man challenge and who came up with is? Well, that’s what we’re here to share with you.

The Making of The Running Man Challenge

The trend began with a few high school kids in New Jersey – Kevin Vincent and Jerry Hall.

Ellen DeGeneres sat with the boys who started it all in 2016. They told her it began with the ’90s hit song called “My Boo” by Ghost Town DJ’s. The guys were in class when they decided to post videos of themselves doing the dance moves now known as the running man challenge.

But it didn’t really go viral until members of the University of Maryland’s basketball team decided to try the dance moves out themselves. Maryland basketball players Jared Nickens and Jaylen Brantley started posting their own versions of the dance craze on their Instagram and they became an overnight sensation.

Within days, everyone from the  NFL to the NBA and everyone else in between made their own videos to share on social media.

Running Man Challenge Police Version

And when we say that everyone was doing the running man challenge, we really meant everyone. The men in blue got in on it, too. The Detroit, Cincinnati and Pittsburg Police Department are just a few who have taken the running man challenge to the next level.

Don’t believe us? Watch the video below.

How Does The Running Man Challenge Work?

You don’t necessarily need to be challenged to take part in the running man challenge. But posting the videos and challenging your friends can make the experience more fun.

First, you do the two-step dance with your ams folded by your hips while the song “My Boo” by Ghost Town DJ’s plays in the background. Next, get creative! Go wherever you think would get the most laughs. Maybe in the grocery store or maybe on your roof?

Once you’ve recorded this, just post your video online and share it with all your friends.

Is the running man challenge dead?

ENTITY reports on the running man challenge.

Because the challenge was posted about a year ago, many wonder if it’s still a thing.

The answer is yes. For example, the dab, the nae nae and the Harlem Shake were all trending when they came out. But people still continue to do it to this day. The same goes for the running man challenge. Just because it’s not viral anymore doesn’t mean there aren’t countless videos being posted on the internet today.

So what are you waiting for? Get crazy and start dancing!
