For starters, does getting a septum piercing hurt?

As is the case with any piercing – septum or not – a needle breaks your skin. It will hurt. But how badly it will hurt depends on the person performing the piercing and on your pain threshold.

“It’s pretty much similar to a regular nose piercing,” Tiny Tatz told Bustle. “It feels like you have to sneeze or like when you get hit in the nose and your eyes water for a split second.” Tatz also noted that septums are hard for piercers too. On their end, it’s hard to get between two nostrils and go under the cartilage. You have to make sure you’re not piercing the nostril. So make sure you go to someone experienced.

As for the rest of the process, that’s all up to you.

Some people can’t handle the pain, but others think it’s not that big of a deal.

What is the healing process like for a septum piercing?

The typical healing time is about four to five weeks, but Tat Ring says it depends on your body’s personal healing time. Some people may have to wait two months before changing their septum jewelry.

But regardless of your personal healing time, make sure to take excellent care of your septum piercing.

What do you use to clean a septum piercing?

If you want to take good care of your septum piercing, we have three words for you: sea-salt soaks. Just like any other piercing, you need to make sure it stays clean and not infected.

Making your own sea-salt soak is pretty simple. Just mix 1/4 teaspoon of sea-salt – which is not the same thing as table salt – with eight ounces of water. Then, use a Q-Tip to get the solution in your nose. But if you’re looking for a simpler way, just dip your nose into the solution. Make sure you don’t soak your septum more than three times a day because it may dry out your piercing.

And aside from keeping your piercing clean, also give it time to properly heal. How do you do that? Simple. Don’t play with it. Leave it down. If you have to hide it during the healing process, it’s probably not the best idea to get a septum. It’s not a good idea to move it around because doing so risks creating a new wound.

How much does a septum piercing cost?

According to Cost Helper Health, a nose piercings in general range from $30 to $90 dollars. And of course, additional expenses will be charged if you want to buy jewelry at the studio.

But when you’re looking for a place to get your piercing done, don’t just focus on the price. Do research about the location, read reviews and make sure they have experienced people. The last thing you want to do is go to a piercer who has never done a septum piercing.
