“Rouge One” actress Felicity Jones, 33, is reportedly replacing Natalie Portman as Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the biopic “On the Basis of Sex.”
Everyone is excited to watch the life story of the amazing Supreme Court Justice. But, do you really know anything about Felicity Jones herself?
If not, here are five facts about the actress.
By studying English at Wadham College at the University of Oxford, she was able to study and act at the same time. She told Stylist that she’s always wanted to go to Oxford.
“Going somewhere like Oxford meant I could act and be part of the theatre there and study at the same time. I loved it. I met my best friends there, who I’m still really close to. I’m so lucky that I had that experience,” Jones said.
At Oxford, she appeared in the student play, “Attis,” and Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” for the Oxford University Dramatic Society.
Graduating with top marks, Jones immediately jumped into the acting world.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Jones negotiated her seven figure salary since her character, Jyn Erso, is the focus of the movie. Her male costars, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn were paid significantly less, with a salary below mid-six figures.
A source told The Hollywood Reporter, “She knows her worth.” Definitely. She’s a powerful woman who knows how much she should be making, and we love her for it.
Her first big role was in “The Worst Witch.” After that, she continued to act in “Weirdsister College,” “The Archers” and “Like Crazy” before she starred in the “Star Wars” movies.
According to Teen Vogue, she was one out of three women on the list of highest grossing actors of 2016.
With “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” grossing over $1 billion at the box office, and Jones being the highest paid star in the movie, she must have amassed a large portion of her net worth from the “Star Wars” film.
Jones got engaged to her boyfriend of two years, Charles Guard, in May 2017. She kept her relationship with the film director quiet until they chose to take their relationship to the next level.
But Guard isn’t her first long term relationship. She was in a ten-year relationship with artist Ed Fornieles. They met at Oxford while Fornieles was studying at the Ruskin School of Art. They also moved in together in East London. After they broke up in 2014, Jones talked to Mirror about life after the relationship.
“I have had love and I have lost love and I was just in a very long relationship that was very important to me but unfortunately it broke down,” Jones said. “But I learned so much from that relationship and I am glad that person was very, very important to me and I had him in my life.”
For her role in “The Theory of Everything,” Jones was nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Bafta Award and a Teen Choice Award – all for the Best or Outstanding Actress categories.
She won an Empire Award for Best Actress for “Rogue One” and Best Female Newcomer for “Like Crazy.”
Although she’s been nominated for multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards, she’s only won awards from smaller film festivals. It’s okay, though, because we have hope that she’ll snatch those big awards soon.
Felicity Jones is a woman who reminds us to know our worth and ask for what we deserve. With all of her accomplishments, she’s truly proved her worth in our hearts.
