ENTITY talks ENTITY Academy graphic design internship

After four years at a liberal arts college, an honors degree, a full resume and a decent portfolio, I thought I had everything I needed to begin a successful post-grad career. I was wrong.

The ENTITY Academy turned me from a college newspaper columnist into an employable, SEO digital storyteller. Before this experience, I had no idea how different those two things were from one another.

Before ENTITY Academy’s Graphic Design Internship, I wrote mostly for print publications. I wrote about current events or personal stories that mattered to me. I had only a vague idea what SEO meant and had no interest in learning more. However, that quickly changed once I arrived here.

As journalism becomes an increasingly online field, the importance of understanding media and SEO has skyrocketed. Learning SEO means learning how to write things that not only matter to you, but that also get read among the millions of website and articles created every day.

Another symptom of the digital age is the do-it-yourself phenomenon. Writing in 2018 means not only writing but editing, posting and designing most of your own work (especially if you don’t have the budget for a designer). Having multiple skills is not only a bonus now, it’s a necessity. The ENTITY Academy Graphic Design Internship has given me the skills to understand nearly all of the Adobe suite, and, as an Envoy, they’re also continuing to provide me with a subscription to Adobe!

3 Marketing and Branding

This skill is another must have. As someone who only recently created an Instagram and never used social media, I came into this internship as a total beginner. Seven weeks later, I pitched an entire marketing strategy to my boss in front of 13 of my fellow mentees. I felt totally confident doing it too!

I also learned about my own personal brand and how I can use it throughout my career.

I am confident that the skills the ENTITY Academy Graphic Design Internship has armed me with are what’ll take me from unemployed to post-grad to the beginning of a successful career.
