ENTITY intern shares 4 things that she learned at ENTITY.

This has been an eyeopening learning experience, one I am thankful to have taken part in. Being among other #WomenThatDo has inspired me in multiple ways, and has allowed me to form amazing bonds with great girls. From the strenuous work days to the fun outings, I learned something new everyday. My internship with Entity is coming to an end, but the lessons I learned will definitely stick with me.

Here are 4 things interning with Entity taught me:

1 To be confident in myself.

Prior to Entity, I was often afraid of sharing my writing with others because I didn’t think it was good enough for others to see. Gaining feedback from both Gabrielle and Jennifer helped me assess areas that I needed to improve on in order to make my writing better and what I was doing that worked well. Hearing positive notes on my writing, from my fellow interns as well, was assuring and motivated me to keep bettering myself. I am proud of the work I put out now.

2 How to manage my time well.

Trying not to rush through a writing assignment, while also meeting deadlines, was a struggle at first. I didn’t want my work to not be my greatest simply because I needed to complete it, so I learned how to manage my time better in order for me to get things done more efficiently. Good time management is essential for both school and my future career.

3 To be more open minded.

Entity has caused me to think and research topics that I never knew of or took the time to learn about. This internship has made me more open to accepting other people’s views and respecting them. I loved gaining different perspectives from women of different backgrounds.

4 Taking risks can lead to something great.

Just ending my second year of college, I had no expectation of landing an internship for the summer. I received an email regarding an editorial position with Entity magazine, an online women’s empowerment platform, and thought it sounded like an amazing opportunity. I had no internship experience, none of my writing published anywhere, just barely started to get into coursework for my major… so I really had no chance. Well, at least that’s what I thought. But I decided to apply anyways, which was the best decision I could have made. Look, you’re reading my writing!

My first internship experience was a memorable one. I have a new perspective both on life and how to face challenges thrown my way. Entity has made an immense impact on me as a person and student, as well as on how to prepare for my career in the near future.
