Hillary Clinton has made only her second public appearance since losing the election in order to support Katy Perry, who was a staunch supporter of hers throughout the presidential campaign.

To return the favor,  Clinton surprised the singer by showing up at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball in New York to present her with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award. Perry received the honor in recognition of raising over $1 million for the organization on her most recent tour.

“I’ve gotten to spend time with her and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place,” Clinton said at the Nov. 29 event.

Katy Perry was one of Hillary Clinton’s highest-profile supporters. The pop star often promoted Clinton’s candidacy at campaign events and on social media, where Perry has over 50 million followers.

Clinton expressed her gratitude for Katy Perry as an artist, humanitarian and friend. “On a personal level, I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate [Perry],” she said. “We need champions like Katy now more than ever: her passion, her energy and yes, her voice, louder than a lion.”

Katy then walked onstage, visibly teary, to hug Clinton and accept her award. “I’ve always had a voice, a singing voice, but I’ve never had a voice like I’ve had before,” Perry responded. “Hillary has lit that voice inside of, and that light will never go out. It will continue to get brighter and brighter and brighter. Thank you Hillary.”

This is just the latest example of high-profile women being there for each other. Celebrity besties like Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey and Adele and Beyoncé have shown their fans how important it is to also get support from one another.
