All about the ENTITY Academy Summer Editorial Internship

We’ve come to the end of our seven weeks here at the ENTITY Academy Summer Editorial Internship. I thought seven weeks would have felt longer but the time here has really flown by fast. This has been such a fun experience and I’m walking away having learned so much. Of course, I’ve learned technical skills like writing and design, but there’s so much more.

1 Better Communication Skills

I had just completed a communication course in college before coming to the ENTITY Academy Summer Editorial Internship. I applied what I learned in school, but walked away learning so much more. We’ve listened and learned from some incredible speakers and I’ve been able to walk away with a great deal of knowledge on how to improve my communication skills even more.

2 More Confidence

Being here away from home took me completely out of my comfort zone. I was scared as hell to come out to Los Angeles alone but knew this was the best thing for me to do. I’m naturally an introverted person and putting myself out there was difficult, so I knew I was going to have to step up my game.

Starting on my first day, I made sure I talked to people when I normally wouldn’t. My confidence has grown more through this experience than any other experience I’ve had in my 25 years of life. I feel ready to move on to whatever the future holds.

3 Networking Skills

I really had no networking skills prior to arriving at the ENTITY Academy Summer Editorial Internship. Learning how to correctly network is something I was very much looking forward to learning.

Now, I’ve learned to make networking a regular activity. I’ve also learned tricks on how to do it. Our incredible speaker Sarah Zapp taught us that you get somebody talking about themselves and their accomplishments first. People enjoy talking about themselves and if you show interest, they’ll reciprocate. Another important thing she taught is that if you give more, you’ll receive more. I feel good about my networking skills and have already had the chance to implement them.

4 Life Long Friendships

I was so excited to meet new people from different places and walks of life. Even though we only had seven weeks together, I feel like I’ve made strong connections with these amazing women. We all came out here alone and for some, it was their first time in Los Angeles and their first time away from home. We spent most of our time together and I can honestly say that the handful of friends I’ve met out here will be in my life forever.

I’ve learned so much about myself and about life. This has been a life-changing experience and one I will never forget!
