Rocio Cervantes is known on Twitter as the makeup artist who “acts like she created the fucking rainbow”. She is the internet’s first resource for rainbow-inspired makeup looks. With a strong Instagram aesthetic, and a dedication to reducing the stigma against acne scarring in media, her sense of humour and talent in the makeup industry has gained her over 200k followers.

Known by her other role as ‘Professional Olympic Blender’, I give Cervantes all the applause and love she deserved. See more of her on her YouTube channel and Twitter page.

2) Angelica Nyqvist

Swedish YouTuber Angelica Nqyuvist, better know as @angeshcka, became popular for her ongoing review series : “New Makeup Releases | Going On The Wishlist Or Nah?” Currently on a ‘low-buy’ year, Nqyuvist’s opinions on colour selection in eyeshadow palettes have earned her the respect of her followers who aspire to achieve #rainbowrealness in their makeup looks. Without a neutral palette in sight, Nyqvist highlights the demand for more colourful eyeshadow palettes, and proves that colourful eyeshadow looks aren’t going anywhere.

Check out some tutorials for her rainbow looks here and here.

3) @Youkeyy

Rising Instagram star and Nigerian YouTuber @Youkeyy made her mark on YouTube with her informative video “PhD in Pigment“—an instructional video on how to make vibrant colors pop on darker skin tones.

A glance through her Instagram quickly reveals that she is a talented makeup artist producing a wide range of colourful looks for her loyal followers. She is especially inspiring for women of color. If you’re looking to make your rainbow makeup looks pop on that melanin @youkeyy_ is your girl.

At only twenty years old, British makeup artist Mitchell Halliday is taking the Instagram world by storm. Mitchell is recognised by his blinding highlight often paired with dramatic neon eye makeup. As a result, Mitchell’s signature style has earned him collaborations with big names in beauty, such as Jeffree Star.

With over a million followers on Instagram, Halliday has held an international masterclass tour across North and South America, and will be embarking on a U.K. tour soon.

6) Leoo Valera

An incredibly underrated makeup artist, Mexican instagrammer Leoo Valera is using his face as a canvas and his eyeshadows as paint. While at only 36,000 followers, a relatively small following for a beauty influencer, Valera’s looks are worthy of thousands more. So if you prefer your tutorials in Spanish, and want to transform yourself into a hermosa mariposa: ¡Echa un vistazo a su Instagram!

And as for little ol’ me, I’ll be taking my own advice and adding some color onto my eyes and into my life. Rainbow makeup may seem scary, but I hope you don’t feel that way anymore. Adding a splash of colour to your looks can brighten up the day of both you and the people around you! As Maya Angelou said, “try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.” So walk down the street and feel proud of your new #facebeat!
