ENTITY Academy SEO Program

I’ve spent the past seven weeks working as part of the ENTITY Academy Program and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. I’ve learned so much that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. I have learned how to use my voice and how to stand up for the things I believed in (actually, I learned many things that weren’t hard skills, but are still important to personal growth, and you can read more about that here).

However, I also learned technical skills that’ll take me far in my career. I chose to apply for this mentorship because I knew it would challenge me and it didn’t disappoint. Starting our very first day, we wrote three articles a day. I was pushed as a writer and as a researcher and I absolutely loved it. We learned many skills that will help us in our professional futures, and here are a top few of mine!

1. SEO

Hard skills at the ENTITY Academy Program

The ENTITY Academy Program of 2018 was also called SEO Boot Camp, which is an accurate representation of what we did/ I learned so much about search engine optimization and I couldn’t be more thankful. As somebody who wants to work in digital marketing and as somebody who blogs on the side, SEO skills are vital for both my personal and professional goals. I now know how the Google algorithm works, how to get your article more views and so much more!

2. “Networking”, but also not…

ENTITY Academy Program showed me what works for me.

Another big takeaway I got from the ENTITY Academy Program was gaining the confidence to go up to guest speakers after a presentation and introduce myself. I’ve always known it was important, but I’ve always been nervous. ENTITY Academy helped push me to do it and I’m so thankful. I have new LinkedIn connections, new contacts and business cards, and even a potential job as well.

You could say that I learned how to network, but we also learned that networking is no longer what you should be focusing on. The key is in building authentic relationships. I loved this idea because networking always felt a little fake to me, but building a relationship comes naturally and is more valuable in the long run.

3. Graphic Design

ENTITY Academy Program hard skills

We spent weeks focusing on different skills, from digital PR to social packaging and, most importantly, graphic design. The latter is something I’ve never been great at and knew I needed to learn more about. I was excited to find out it was a part of the ENTITY Academy Program curriculum!

I learned multiple Adobe programs, including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. We even had an Adobe representative come and teach us about the newest program, Adobe XD I am so beyond grateful for all the different areas ENTITY focuses on and all the resources they share with us.

I’ve learned so much more than these top three topics, but I wanted to share why they were my top takeaways. It doesn’t feel real that the ENTITY Academy Program is over for me, and I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye. It’s going to be so sad, but I feel so lucky that I got to have this experience. Thank you, ENTITY!
