Thankfully, Reddit users love sharing their experiences. Here’s a list of 15 tattoo stories that ENTITY has compiled for you.
“Take a toothpick and scratch your skin with it moderately. You should make the skin sink a bit, but not to the point of bleeding.”
“Have you ever been scratched by a cat? It’s that same feeling and sting, nonstop, until the artist has finished.”
“It stings a bit but it become more of a burning sensation with little stabs of more focused pain every once and while. The less fleshy the area is, the more painful it tends to be.

“I have four [tattoos]. One on the back of my right leg, two on my chest, and one on my collarbone.
I wouldn’t describe it as painful, just more irritating. I have about average pain tolerance. I rate the pain as 4/5 out of 10.”
“Got one on the back of my right calf. I can only describe the feeling like a deep almost burning sensation. It definitely wasn’t comfortable but it was easily tolerable, 5/10 pain if I had to give it a number. Haven’t regretted yet.”
“I once read it’s like dragging a needle across sunburned skin. I went in to get mine with that in mind, and it was pretty close. And the area starts getting a bit numb after a bit, so the pain decreases the longer you’re there.”
“Places that tend to hurt the worst are places where the skin is close to the bone (hands, feet, ribs, collar bone, etc.).
“If you’re just getting something simple and small, it won’t take too long so it won’t hurt as bad. It hurts afterward for a while too, it kinda feels like a bad sunburn.”
“It feels like a razor. A really really sharp thing lightly parting your skin. A sensation so confusing that your body interprets it almost like a sensation of heat. I dont mind it. Its just a sensation.”
“Pain is so completely subjective that what caused my brother to pass out in the chair, got me so close to an orgasm I had take a break and go in the bathroom and knock one out with the girlfriend.”
“The elbow portion of my sleeve made me utter a very audible ‘Holy sh-tballs,’ but it’s otherwise only enough pain to make me bite my lip.”
“Pain is so completely subjective that what caused my brother to pass out in the chair, got me so close to an orgasm I had take a break and go in the bathroom and knock one out with the girlfriend.”
