Entity reports that Gigi Hadid has opened up about her health battle with thyroid disease.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid has opened up about how her battle with thyroid disease pushes her to work harder.

Hadid revealed that her thyroid condition has affected her lifestyle, workout regimen and career as a model. According to her, she didn’t want to lose any more weight for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show, she just wanted to “have muscles in the right place.”

“My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year,” Gigi said onstage in a panel discussion a Reebok event. “I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease and it’s now been two years since taking the medication for it.”

Hashimoto’s disease is a form of hypothyroidism, which is a disease affected by the underproduction of thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for running the body’s metabolism. Thus, patients suffering from hypothyroidism often experience symptoms associated with a slow metabolism, such as fatigue, heavy periods, depression and weight fluctuation.

Because of this, people like Gigi Hadid have to pay close attention to their health, especially their workouts and diet.

To stay in shape, the 21-year-old model regularly boxes. But according to her, she doesn’t just box for the health benefits, she also boxes for the social and personal benefits. “I needed to find something that gave me a coach, gave me a family so that when I walk in [they’re] like my big brothers.” Gigi said.

“They don’t care about who I am … and they don’t care about what my body looks like. They care that I give a good punch and that’s how I want to be judged. That’s what makes me proud of myself,” she added.

In a recent Instagram photo, she wrote about how women should learn to be confident and love who they are.

In the panel, Gigi also talked about how her diet consists of eggs and fresh ingredients.

“I do like eggs, but all different ways. I love baked eggs. I like tomato and bacon,” she said. “In general I like fresh ingredients. I’m not a salad and meat type of person; to me, that’s boring … If I can cook it with ingredients that I know are good, then I’ll eat anything. Carbs or whatever!”

The Victoria’s Secret model, however, has previously been criticized for not being a “real model.”

Earlier this year, Stephanie Seymour described Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner as “b*tches of the moment” because they’re “completely different” from traditional supermodels.

But despite this backlash, Gigi has proven to be a hard worker. “I’ve never taken a sick day,” she added. “I feel that pressure of not taking time for yourself because you don’t want it to affect your professionalism.”

Hadid also recently won the International Model of the Year award at the 2016 British Fashion Awards. In response to this accomplishment, the model admitted that she hopes that she won because of her energy and personality, not just because of her pictures.

“[That award] was voted on by 1,000 people that I worked with this year, and I don’t think half of them said, ‘Gigi’s pictures were the best of my pictures this years,'” she said. “But maybe they said, ‘I had a great day shooting with Gigi. She gave all her energy. She really tried to understand the concept and showed interest.’ I hope that’s 50 percent of why I got the award, not just the pictures.”
