Women Experiencing a Glow Up

The glow up is more than just leveling up physically. Glowing up involves your mind, body, and soul. The process also doesn’t require lots of money contrary to popular culture. Read and breathe in this article for seven sure ways to glow up and help you look and feel your best anywhere and anytime.

How to Have a Glow Up

There are different things you can do to glow up. The seven ways featured in this article on how to have a glow up involve both a lifestyle and mindset change. According to an article on Wikihow, a glow up is an empowering transformation of who you are. A glow up might look different to each person. It can look like changing your appearance by upgrading your wardrobe, drinking more water to clear your skin, or exercising to lose excess weight. Leveling up in these areas will help transform you from the inside out. Simply put, glowing up is about becoming the best version of yourself. Ladies, I promise if you follow these seven methods, you will glow up naturally and now.

Step 1: Drink at Least 8 Glasses of Water Each Day

According to an article on Healthline, medical professionals say to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to maintain healthy and clear skin. In an article for Minimalist Magazine, board-certified dermatologist Anna Guanche, MD, FAAD, explains that hydration refers to the water content within the cells that leads them to swell. This process causes cells to be plump and bouncy, thus reflecting light well.

Therefore, if water flows out of the cells and the cells are dehydrated, they can become shriveled, which leads to lackluster skin. That’s why studies recommend you combine staying hydrated along with using moisturizing lotions to achieve a healthy glow. You don’t want to rely solely on moisturizers because lotion alone does not have the same effect as staying hydrated. This is because a moisturizer only preserves the moisture barrier of your skin. Whereas if you stay hydrated by drinking the recommended amount of water for your skin, the largest organ in your body, you will also be hydrated resulting in a healthy and glowing complexion.

Step 2: Exercise for at Least 30 Minutes per Day

Daily exercise can improve both your physical appearance and mental health, helping you glow up from the inside out. According to an article by Lifehack, there are various exercises that can be done to improve your appearance. For example, if you want to tone your arms, abs, and thighs, you can perform a variety of strength training exercises. Exercise also improves blood circulation throughout the body which can help produce a natural glow in the skin after each workout. Creating a daily routine to work out can contribute to your overall glow up anytime and anywhere.

Step 3: Get at Least 8 Hours of Sleep

You’ve probably heard the popular phrase “beauty rest.” Believe it or not, there is an overwhelming connection between sleep and physical appearance. A research publication in 2017 found that quality sleep has the power to make you look more sociable and attractive. The research team photographed 25 participants for two days after they had a full eight hours of sleep. They took photos of these same participants again on the following two days after they only got four hours of sleep each night. A second group of 122 participants was asked to rate these images on a seven-point scale on the following axes: strong sociability (How much would you like to socialize with this person?), attractiveness, health, and trustworthiness.

The participants wore no make-up, minimal jewelry, the same dark grey T-shirts, and hair pulled back to control for other factors in their appearance. Despite this, those who had eight hours of sleep were consistently rated as more attractive, healthier, and more sociable. So ladies, to experience a glow up and level up your looks you must get your beauty rest.

Step 4: Dress for Success

The way you dress and present yourself to others gives them a first impression of who you are. Learning how to dress to flatter your body type and personality will instantly help you glow up not just physically but mentally. According to Scientific American, studies show that the clothes you wear can affect your mental and physical performance. The retailers you shop at can also say a lot about who you are and what you believe in.

For example, if you choose to purchase from fast fashion companies that are bad for the ecosystem and human population, it can be hard to take pride in the clothing that you wear. Today’s fast fashion represents poverty and inequality which is not a good look or feeling for consumers. Therefore, I would encourage anyone looking to improve their mental well-being by updating their wardrobe to shop with eco-friendly brands. This is not only good for you but also for the environment.

Step 5: Eat more Fruits and Vegetables

According to an article in Medical News Today, researchers suggest that eating fruit and vegetables can change your skin tone. The results from a recent study showed that participants that increased their consumption of fruits and vegetables over the observation period showed a change in skin color, toward more of a golden, healthy glow.

Those whose diet went the other way, with less fruit and veggies, showed a reduction in skin tone. To sum up their findings, this one change in your diet can help you lose weight and improve the appearance of your hair, skin, and nails. This is a sure way to glow up to look and feel your best from the inside out.

Step 6: Keep a Gratitude Journal

Gratitude is a healthy emotion to have and express throughout life. It’s also a positive and attractive trait to have and display. According to an article by Peak Wellness, research shows a strong relationship between gratitude and well-being. It sounds like a platitude or a myth that being grateful for what you have improves the overall quality of your life, but science is slowly confirming what people have been saying for years.

Gratitude journaling has helped me look at my life and circumstances in a more positive and fulfilling way. I believe if you incorporate this practice into your daily routine, it will help you do the same. Studies also suggest that keeping a regular journal can improve your mood, reduce stress, and even sharpen your memory.  Based on these findings, it’s safe to say keeping a specific gratitude journal will improve your mood, overall well-being, and contribute to your glow up.

Step 7: Practice Self-love Through Self-care

Self-love is a form of self-care. Practicing self-care can foster a sense of self-love in our everyday lives. According to an article in Relish Magazine, practicing self-care is an action-oriented way that we can show ourselves self-love. It means loving all aspects of yourself by accepting your flaws, your weaknesses, and the things you don’t always like about yourself. It is also about holding high standards for your own well-being and happiness.

Practicing self-love through self-care will help you have a glow up because it teaches you to respect and value your needs and boundaries. Applying this practice to your everyday life will not only help you develop a more positive and loving relationship with yourself. This practice will also help you foster healthy relationships with others. This is another sure way to glow up emotionally and physically.
