If you’re going for a fresh and natural look, PopSugar’s Thick + Thin mascara has you covered. It’s gentle, easy to apply, and smudge-proof. If you’re looking for a mascara with a strong volumizing and lengthening effect however, this mascara lays a good groundwork but won’t go all the way.

Regardless of whichever look you’re going for, a highly likable feature of this mascara is that it power-packs two brushes in one: a thin brush, and a thick brush. It’s basically like getting two mascaras for the price of one!

The Thin Brush

The thin, tiny brush is designed to lift, prime, and separate your upper and lower lashes, while the large, thick brush claims to add loads of volume. I find the thin brush gracious and light, which makes it easy to put on mascara without smudging. It also separates, lifts, and adds volume to the lashes without feeling heavy on your eyes. What I absolutely love about this is that the Thick + Thin mascara gives you a natural look in no time.

The Thick Brush

The thick brush doesn’t add as much volume as promised, however. Particularly not if you compare it to other volumizing mascaras such as Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara or L’Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara featured here. Apart from volume, I’m lacking a lengthening effect of the Thick + Thin mascara as well. However, since my eyelashes are short and few in number, these are my individual needs speaking. And after all, the mascara is primarily promising to add volume and not length.

How to Apply It

When using PopSugar’s Thick + Thin mascara, there are instructions telling you to use the thin brush prior to the thick brush. Thus, that’s what I did.

Before that, I curled my eyelashes since they would otherwise point forward. Then I gently applied the mascara on the upper eyelashes using the thin brush. Starting at the roots, I wiggled my way towards the end of the lashes. Having done this, I applied the same routine on the lower eyelashes. As a next step, I used the thick brush to finalize the look.

Final Verdict

Overall, I loved the thin brush since it was super easy to work with. It smoothly dressed the eyelashes with a light layer of mascara and was literally eye-opening. I was somewhat disappointed with the thick brush though. Volume was promised and therefore what I expected, but applying an additional layer of mascara with the thick brush didn’t make much difference.

Since I have shorter and a relatively scarce amount of lashes, more volume and length is required in order for my needs to be met. Instead of using the PopSugar’s thick brush, I’d apply a mascara that primarily adds length (for instance L’Oreal Paris Telescopic mascara) or one that primarily adds more volume.

That being said, I believe that this mascara can be a life-saver for people with naturally long and curled eyelashes aiming for a natural look. In addition, it’s cruelty-free, vegan, free from bad ingredients and you get two brushes in one for $25. If this mascara meets your needs, I’d say that’s a pretty good deal.
