Rachel Zane suits Pearson Specter Litt in the same way Pearson Specter Litt fits Rachel better than her father’s firm.

A recurring theme in many of the characters’ lives is about becoming better than their parents. Jessica wanted to be a better firm partner than her father. Harvey wanted to be a better person than his manipulating mother. And Rachel has always wanted to be a better litigator than her father so she could outgrow his shadow.

Rachel Zane, Meghan Markle’s pride and joy (and also one of ours), has worked hard to make a name for herself. She’s always refused to take handouts (looking at you Mike), and now she’s a full-fledged lawyer!

She’s beginning to grow into herself and it would be a shame if she decided to take her father up on his offer as soon as she started gaining momentum.

Rachel’s Current Professional Trajectory

As we touched on before, Rachel is now a full-fledged lawyer (3rd year associate). After being a paralegal for so long, it’s about time she got this promotion.

She killed her LSAT exam, got accepted into Harvard Law, excelled in all her classes while working full-time at the firm and even helped drop the charges for her first client on the Innocence Project. She accomplished all this because of her wit, perseverance and heart.

Although the current Rachel Zane outfits don’t reflect this yet, she’s on the way to becoming the next Jessica Pearson. Better yet, she’s on the way to becoming the Rachel Zane. So why does she need the help of her father to get where she’s already headed?

Why Her Accepting Robert Zane’s Offer Would Undo All Her Hard Work

Rachel has always wanted to step out of her father’s shadow. This was the main reason she asked Jessica for a job in the first place. Running back to her father would undo all the hard work she’s done to separate herself from his towering image.

Not to mention, think about all the future conflicts of interest. Can you imagine if Rachel had been working for her father at the end of season six of “Suits”? Rachel and Mike were going to get married and he almost missed it because he was hurt.

Also, the same passive-aggressive stunts Harvey pulls on Mike when Mike doesn’t agree with his own opinions would have been Rachel’s experience, only ten-fold. It would be a war-zone in an office with her father.

Future Conflicts of Interest

In addition to that point, everyone who’s a lawyer wants to one day become a senior or name partner. That’s a given. However, no one wants people to think this only happened because they rode on their parents coattails (*cough* nepotism *cough*). If Rachel were to ever make it to name partner at her father’s firm, would there be two Zanes in the title? Or would her Zane just be interchanged with her fathers?

Both options sound ridiculous when the names on her current firm’s wall could be Specter Litt Ross Zane. And if one day she actually gets married to Mike and they realize they want to get together and create their own firm, it could be called: Zane Ross. But then again, we have our bets on Rachel becoming a powerhouse before Michael marries her. Ha.

All jokes aside, though, Rachel deserves better than her father’s firm.

Nothing against him or the sweetness and love behind his offer. However, the respect he’s gained for her abilities as a future lawyer came from the growth she’s had at Pearson Specter Litt.

Rachel can do bad all by herself and one day, she will.
