Switching to veganism can sound scary and difficult for some people. According to Instagram blogger Sydney Wilhelm, these people just don’t understand how easy it can be!

Today’s technology and the advances we have made have allowed for there to be alternatives for meat, cheese, and milk.

Sydney Wilhelm’s Journey

Wilhelm first decided to become vegan after she produced a speech for a class in college. Originally, her topic was, “why you should go vegetarian.” However, after reading a ton of articles and taking in information about the pros and cons of becoming a vegan, she instantly switched.

She stated on her Instagram, “The hardest thing about going vegan is definitely learning what you can and can’t eat and you’d be surprised how many products unnecessary ingredients are in!”

This could not be more true. So many foods have added preservatives and other harmful ingredients that aren’t disclosed on the packaging.

The Reality of Going Vegan

For Wilhelm, and others that are trying to go vegan, they struggle with staying away from cheese and desserts. Yes, cheese is delicious and so is a chocolate cupcake, but there are so many good vegan options for these foods.

Most people think switching to a vegan diet means that they eat vegetables and fruits for every meal, or that they can’t afford the foods. In reality, it is so much cheaper and tastier than what people think.

Once you get comfortable with the foods that fall into a vegan diet, you will learn what works best for you and makes you feel healthy and satisfied.

Where You Can Get Vegan Options

There are many inexpensive options for going vegan like beans, fruits, vegetables, and grains. Going to a supermarket is a great way to find healthy options you can take advantage of when switching to a vegan diet.

Now, everyone wonders this. What do I do when I go out to dinner with friends and there are little to no vegan options?

Well, first off. I hope that if you are committed to being a vegan, your friends would be supportive and understand that you need to go to places where you can actually have an enjoyable meal.

But if that is not an option, then most restaurants usually have vegetarian dishes and just ask them to modify without dairy or ask for it on the side.

What Sydney Eats

Sydney states in her blog post that she eats a lot of whole foods like rice, vegetables, fruits, and beans. These foods are simple, but when combined with other foods and spices there are so many ways to eat them!

Sydney also gave a list in her Instagram of places to find vegan foods in St. Louis, Missouri. She gave plenty of options anywhere from cupcakes, pizza, Asian food, and açaí bowls.

Whether you live in a big city with a vegan restaurant on every corner or in a smaller city where veganism isn’t very popular, with these helpful tips and experiences from Sydney Wilhelm, you can easily become a vegan.
