Fake cop pulls woman over

Nobody enjoys getting pulled over by a cop. And as if the prospect of getting a speeding ticket wasn’t bad enough already, women now need to worry about the fact that the man pulling them over could be a fake cop.

According to reports, a woman was pulled over in Edmonton, Canada by a man claiming to be a peace officer. Paul David Derksen instructed the woman to exit the vehicle and she complied because, well, he looked like a cop. However, Derksen then began to threaten the woman. He allegedly told her that he would not ticket her if she agreed to perform sexual acts. The night took yet another dark turn when, according to reports, he then drove her fifteen kilometers away to park and sexually assault her.

Derkson has since been charged with kidnapping and sexual assault, according to an Edmonton Police Service news release.

One reason it was so easy for cops to track down Derkson is because the alleged victim went above and beyond in terms of her bravery and strategy. When she and Derkson got back into the car, she secretly took out her cellphone and filmed the car ride. She was able to get footage of his car and appearance, all of which made the process of identifying him much easier.

Moral of the story: Women should definitely use caution when getting pulled over. Especially if you find yourself on a quiet backroad late at night. In April, a man pretending to be a cop pulled over a woman in Volusia County, Florida. The woman sensed something was wrong. She drove off and flagged down two deputies to help her.

Which is the right move. If you think the cop pulling you over isn’t legit make sure to head to a more populated or lighted area before getting out of the car.  Then call 911 and ask for help.

It may seem crazy that this is something women need to worry about, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
