Although the herpes simplex virus may not seem like the most trendy or glamorous of topics, Laci Green sums up the basic facts in her new video! After all, as Green admits in her introduction, herpes is a pretty terrifying thing to think about.

Have you ever asked yourself why this is the case? While Green admits that “a positive herpes diagnosis can feel devastating,” the virus is completely manageable. Not only that, but Green points out, “Herpes stigma in society is the direct result of sexuality being taboo and shameful.”

For instance, many men and women think herpes on your mouth is different from genital herpes. But, as West Over Heights points out in their publication titled “The Updated Herpes Handbook,” it’s the exact same virus. However, Green says genital herpes is shamed more because it is more explicitly tied to sex, something that not many cultures like to discuss.

There are eight different types of herpes out there. And, if you’re tired of feeling like you can’t talk about your health concerns or questions, start by watching Green’s video!
