ENTITY reports on mixed signals

Relationships are tough because sometimes people are just way too hard to read.

Sure, your current love interest says they want to hang out. But does it mean anything if they never actually make the effort to see you? Or maybe they’re active on their Snapchat stories but never reply to your texts. And while we’re at it, is the song “Mixed Signals” by Robbie Williams #relatable?

If these sound familiar to you, you’re probably being sent mixed signals.

Mixed signals go both ways for men and women. As much as we want to assume men and women treat relationships differently, they’re actually more alike than we think.

I’ve ghosted and been ghosted. I’ve put men on the back-burner just in case I needed a last-minute choice. And I’ve also gotten a taste of my own medicine.

But if I’ve learned anything from my own romantic endeavors, a person sending you mixed signals isn’t worth your time and energy. But sometimes, you’re so deep into your crush that you can’t even tell if you’re getting mixed signals.

In that case, allow ENTITY to interpret the mixed signals men and women use and why you should probably move on if you’re on the receiving end.

1 If your significant other is texting you but isn’t making an effort to hang out…

You’re second choice in case another situation doesn’t work out.

They don’t want to commit to you, but they also don’t want to completely let you go either. They’re leading you on until they decide it’s convenient for them to either drop you or commit to you. Chances are, you’re going to be led on until they find someone better.

Choosing to stay with this person usually doesn’t end well and will probably be a major waste of your time. We all know you deserve to be with someone who wants you, so your best option is to drop this person and move on.

2 If your significant other ghosts you, but comes back a week later asking to hang out…

Bust a JoJo and tell them to Get. Out.

The fact that your crush ghosted you to begin with is a major red flag. This probably means they were ready to drop you, but didn’t have the courage to tell you. So instead, they decided that dropping off the face of the planet might be easier.

But since you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, they decided that they made a mistake so they came back, hoping you didn’t realize you had been ghosted.

Yeah, don’t waste your time with this one. If they didn’t realize you were worth the effort before, they never will.

3 If your significant other doesn’t post about you on social media…

Social media isn’t the end all, be all of a relationship. We know. And changing your Facebook status from “single” to “in a relationship” doesn’t make anything more official than it actually is.

But  if they’re the type of person that’s very active on social media and still there’s no trace of you on their accounts, they’re probably not in it for the long haul. This either means they’re embarrassed by you or don’t want other people to know they’re currently with someone.

4 If your significant other only acts affectionate when you are both alone…

I’m not saying we need full-on PDA. Some people just aren’t comfortable with that.

But if your partner acts like you’ve got the plague, then they probably don’t see you as anything more than a friend.

5 If your significant other doesn’t introduce you to their family or friends…

You might want to keep your guard up.

Sure, they don’t have to immediately take you home to their parents. But if you two have been together for a while and you haven’t met his or her friends, then there’s trouble in paradise. It’s normal to want to show your significant other off to your friends and family, especially if you’re close to these people.

If your partner isn’t making that effort, then they probably don’t think you two will last long.

All in all, trying to understand mixed signals may feel like this sometimes:

Relationships are complicated and mixed signals make things more complicated. Honey, you’re the HBIC, you’re too good to be someone’s “maybe.”

If someone is interested in you, you will know it and you won’t doubt it. If you have even the slightest doubt in your mind, trust your instincts and leave.
